IDE hard disks A feature available on most newer BIOSes is the so-called 32-bit transfer mode. This feature provides a small performance improvement when enabled via this BIOS setting; the feature itself is described here. Try enabling 32-bit transfers for a small performance improvement, as long as it does not cause any problems.
Note: This optimization has nothing to do with Windows 3.x's "32-bit disk access" or "32-bit file access", which refer to something different entirely.
